chain

overview

keep the chain going for as long as you can. your score is the number of words. personal bests are saved per difficulty. the daily is free; unlimited play and the archive are part of mayday plus.

no repeats

your word cannot end on any of the last four letters already used in the chain. that stops the same ending letter from cycling forever.

constraints

each round adds one extra rule, shown above the input. easy can roll no extra rule. unlimited easy and medium let you pick the doubled letter when that constraint appears; hard and the daily keep the rolled letter.

• required vowel, every word must contain a given vowel.
• length, every word must be a given number of letters.
• syllables, every word must have a given syllable count.
• banned letter, no word may contain a given letter.
• letter pair, every word must contain a given two-letter sequence, such as "th".
• repeated letter, every word must repeat some letter (the n's in banana), or a specific letter twice.
• no repeated letters, no word may use the same letter more than once.

clock

the timer starts when you type. easy is 90 seconds, medium 60, hard 30.

extreme

available on hard. same words and constraint as hard, plus sudden death: a valid word adds 5 seconds, a miss loses 3.
